Small Business Saturday

I have to admit I thought briefly about shopping on Black Friday but quickly got over that idea, Small Business Saturday is way more my style. Mike made a dash out Saturday morning and came back to the house with some incredibly decedent cinnamon rolls from a local bakery in Springfield, the Storehouse Bakery on West Sunshine. We brewed a good pot of coffee and settled in to watch some college football for the afternoon. Now this is the way to have a weekend and still support your local small business friends in the process!

I can't even begin to count our many blessings this year. So many people that have touched our lives and helped us through a very memorable year. As we had our turkey with all the trimmings along side 24 family members and friends, I gave thanks to God who has blessed us so. The list is long....family, friends, church family, school family, work family, the fabulous Fightin' Irish football guys, 2 incredible hospitals here in Springfield, so many Doctors, Nurses, Paramedics and Therapists who never gave up hope.....the words thank you are simply not enough. You prayed with us, prayed for us, brought meals, snacks, magazines and hugs when we needed them most. You will forever hold a special place in our hearts. Love to each and every one of you and a sincere thank you! Wishing each of you a blessed holiday season.

2011, I can't believe it is already here.....wasn't it just summer? Actually this time of year is one that we love here at Backroads, it is a great time to look back at all the fun Seniors, kiddos, families and even pets that we have worked with in 2010. It is a time of renewal, a time to rest, dream and prepare for a new year with all the excitement and promise that it holds.

Mike and I would love to thank all of you that we worked with in the past year. WOW, we have photographed an exciting bunch this year and a great looking group too. The focus this year at Backroads has been Seniors, our passion! Thank you for allowing us to do what we love and having fun with you along the way.

We managed to sneak in a vacation this summer and while we were there I was blessed to photograph my first 2011 senior, my own niece Morgan from North Callaway High. We just couldn't pass up the opportunity to take a few of her senior images on the beach in South Carolina. The pier was so impressive and make a wonderful backdrop at dawn. We were completely finished and back in the condo by 8 am......it was an early morning but Morgan was a trooper and her older brother John-Michael was the sun (flash master)! Armed with only my backup camera (because Mike had shoots at home) one flash and my 50 mm lens, we managed to get a few shots that made her Senior images unique. John-Michael worked the off camera flash for me, while Morgan posed away! I love you MoMo, and hope you have a very special senior year!!!

McCayla ~ Republic

One of the seniors that came in towards the end of the year was McCayla from Republic. I just loved working with her on senior images, she was a young lady that had an incredible smile and knew just what she wanted. She was a natural beauty, enjoying animals and the outdoors so that is what we focused on for her senior shoot. We look forward to another session with you soon McCayla!

All is well here at Backroads and we are staying very busy. We are knee deep in wallets this time of year with all the latest orders coming in for graduation announcements, more wallet re-orders and those seniors that have just been waiting to get Senior pictures done. We feel very blessed, we have a wonderful group of seniors that we have worked with this year and are still getting referrals. The latest referral came from Laken in Crane when she had Ethan contact us. Thanks Laken! Here is one of my favorites so far that is edited of Ethan. I just love this one in his catcher's mask. Great session Ethan, you are going to have many to chose from and I can't wait to show you more!

it is FOOTBALL season! We haven't been home much lately with fall football in full swing. We have been faithfully following our Irish as they have had a very exciting season. Varsity and Junior Varsity have been very impressive this year, there is so much talent on the field and never a shortage of great action shots to take. Mike has been on the sidelines with the camera in hand at most home and away games, while I have been up in the stands just enjoying being a Mom and cheering on our team.

We here at Backroads by Lynda have been shooting, shooting and doing more shooting! It has been a busy summer and we feel blessed......many weddings both ones we have scheduled and ones I have been second shooting with Denise, lots of seniors, families and ball teams too.

Tate turned 15 the end of June and we finally went out and took some of him. It is such a great age for portraits, he will be changing so much between now and the time he is done with high school and it is an age that many don't think about for portraits. He picked his clothes and brought his guitar and we got some great shots of him just being himself. I can't believe he is already 15. Where does the time go?

Even though it is crazy as ever in the middle of football and track season, I have been as busy as ever with portraits....I just haven't been posting any. I am starting with a few things I did last month at a photography meet-up that Mike and I were honored to be part of. Jennifer Schreck and I presented a class on the basics of photography and it was called "What the F is an F-stop?" We had a great time teaching and got to meet up with wonderful friends that we have known for years and were able to meet many new friends. There ended up being almost 100 photographers in one beautiful house with about 8 inches of snow falling outside. We had such a wonderful time in the beautiful little town of Skiatook, OK snow and all.

When we weren't teaching, we too were able to take classes and we had some incredible instructors as well as stunning models to work with. I am going to be posting some of the shots from some of the classes and also giving you links to those instructors websites so you are able to go check them out and see some awesome images from these artists.

This first series is from one of two classes that I took from a master lighter, Lowry Wilson of Old South Images in New Albany, Mississippi. http://www.oldsouthimages.com is the link to Lowry's website. Lowry spent many years in the studio setting and still rocks the house with lighting! Now days, you seem to find Lowry out shooting landscapes where he continues to rock the house! Beautiful, beautiful images that anyone would treasure hanging in your home and they are true works of art. A very special thank you to Lowry for taking the time to show different styles and techniques of lighting to us.

Just a shout-out to the maker of the backdrop used in these images. Silverlake Photo @http://silverlakephoto.com is really top of the line when it comes to backdrops. I personally own several of theirs and they were generous enough to be a major sponsor of the meet-up supplying us with 4 backdrops to use and then to give away as a doorprize. This drop is the Asylum and I wished I would have been the winner of this one......it is an awesome drop. Modeling for us this day were two very lovely ladies, Lisa and Laura.

Ozark Track Meet

Tonight's track meet was at Ozark high school's new track and football field which was an awesome venue. The afternoon started out sunny and in the 50's but by nightfall it cooled off considerably. Irish had a good showing and here are a few of the highlights from the night.

Pellegrino's Concerts

We have had the pleasure of attending and photographing a few concerts at Pellegrino's school of Music the end of February. I have to say (proudly) that the images which were taken are not mine, they are Tate's. The music was incredible as we listened to songs played by a host of bands. You guys rock....literally!!! What fun and what a great venue for some awesome images. Thanks Mark for asking Tate to do the photography, he had a great time at his very first real photo gig and so did we.

Elizabeth's mini session

Today I met Elizabeth, a wonderfully sweet girl with a contagious smile and a senior at Ozark High school. Yes, she was quite a sport in the cold weather and we were able to get a few shots that she needed before we do her full senior session. Karol, Elizabeth's Mom and Cindy a friend of both of ours came along to help, thanks girls. We had to move fast in the cold, but I really think we were able to capture Elizabeth's natural beauty and here are a few of her images. Recently we met with Kelsey from Nixa and took her senior images at Well Fed Head in Springfield and then went out in a field right before dark and finished up outside. I met Leigha last year when she was getting her hair done for Hurley's prom. She was stunning then and I knew then that I would love taking her senior pictures. A new year always presents the opportunity to look back at the previous year and re-evaluate what works and where we have been. Mike and I have felt very privileged to be as busy as we have been in 2008 with the turn in the economy. We have a very loyal customer base, largely based on repeat customers and referrals. We would like to thank all of you who have been "Backroads" clients this year for your loyalty and willingness to allow us to continue to explore the artistic side of photography. Striving to do unique images that showcase YOU being YOU is what we are all about. Meeting and talking with each of you about what you want to convey through your portraits keeps us challenged on on our toes trying to give you portraits as individual as you are. Thank you for the fun times as we paraded through towns this year, in old abandoned barns and buildings, down railroad tracks, football fields, walking in the middle of creeks and of course traveling the backroads to those locations that are important in your lives. It makes doing what we do a blast and we look forward to the excitement of where we will travel in 2009!

What an exciting game Thursday night!!! Chad Harris asked us to photograph his son and the Cherokee Middle School football team and we had an awesome time. The teams were so well matched and the game was so exciting between Cherokee and Carver that I found myself yelling on the side lines while trying to get the shots. We had a great time and watched some incredibly gifted 7th grade athletes. You guys ROCKED!

B-Ball Senior Lady Pirates '09

We had so much fun last Wednesday night when we got together in the Crane High School gym with Chelsey and Kenzie and shot their sports shots. We were able to capture the two of them both together and separate in their ball uniforms, in the locker-room and with the State trophy that they helped win last year when Crane High ended 4th in the state in basketball! You girls are just so much fun and I think you both had a good time too watching us try to get the shots we wanted while trying real hard not to tear up too much of our equipment in the process. Beautiful Laura was back for her senior session and we had a wonderful day for all her around town shots. Laura is a senior this year at Catholic and is so busy with school and sports but we were able to pick an afternoon and cruise Springfield looking for just the right spots for her images. This girl can dress! She picked the most incredible colors and styles to get a wide variety of images and that made our job of picking the locations even more fun, she even brought her "football team jeans" to show her school spirit. Last night we attended the Irish Middle school soccer game in Springfield and were WOW'd by their athletic abilities. This group of young men were fantastic to watch compete and we had such a great time that I am sure we will be back to attend another game. It was a very exciting and the teams were well matched with the game ending in a tie. Well done Irish!

Mike and I have been contacted by a newspaper to obtain pictures from our town of Billings to be featured for an article that is being written about the towns of Billings here in the United States. We were honored and excited to have been chosen and have had so much fun driving around seeing old friends and meeting new ones with our "Billings images" adventure. This week we met the Fire Chief, Tony Keats while he and his father were putting up a new sign on one of the fire houses. While there talking with Tony, he brought out the newest addition to the fleet and showed us the brand new firetruck! It's a beauty Tony and I am thrilled to show the rest of you a couple of images of the new truck protecting our homes and property here in Billings, MO.

Mike and I have known Kickapoo Chief #53, Travis and his family for several years now and were absolutley thrilled to be able to do his senior pictures this year. Travis is one of the most incredible young men that I know and a wonderful role model for the younger athletes coming up through the ranks of youth sports. Travis is active in football and wrestling and has been a volunteer coach for the team that our son wrestled on, the Springfield Youth Wrestling club for several years now. It was our honor to be able to work with Travis and create some senior images that I hope he and his family will love. It is always fun to work with someone you know and capture the essence of their personality. Although it was hot out, Casey was game for both a downtown shoot with his great car as well as ending the session on his home football field. We have had the privilege of knowing Casey for several years through youth wrestling and know Casey will succeed in anything he chooses to pursue, he is a super guy. The Billings Community Fair has begun!

The Billings Community Fair kicked off Thursday night with the crowning of Rebekka Devine, the 2008 Billings Fair Queen. Congratulations Rebekka, you looked stunning! The old gymnasium was transformed again this year into the exhibit hall and entries were taken until 8pm with more taken this morning until 11am. Judging occured at noon and ribbons are in place, there are some wonderful exhibits again this year by members of our community and close communities around us. We moved from West Des Moines, Iowa to rural Missouri at the very end of my 5th grade year. Actually, we were only in class a couple of weeks before summer break but in that few weeks I met someone that would stay in my life forever. Monica White and I were pretty well inseparable once we met in junior high, along with the third of our trio Beverly Cutbirth. We spent hours planning our Veterinary careers and drawing out our stable where we were going to house our "hundreds" of horses and dogs that we planned on owning. We shared all the issues growing up that best friends do from first boyfriends, family issues, triumphs, failures and broken hearts. Through it all, even at times where we tended to do our own things, we all knew we had each other to fall back on for anything! Monica is now married to a wonderful man and the proud mother of 3 fabulous boys. She works for a hazardous waste company and runs herself crazy like the rest of us shuttling children from activity to activity and the last time I saw her, I still thought "Nick" was as beautiful as ever (I still think she looks like Angelina)! Best friends in life, the true ones anyway, are hard to come by and once you have that special relationship no matter how far apart you are physically, you know that they are just as close as the end of the phone or the drop of an e-mail and that is something that everyone deserves to have. Thank you Monica for being my special friend in life that has always been there through thick and thin. I love you and really hope you have the happiest of birthdays ever! Oh, and just so you know....Monica is the hottie in red at the bottom of the page, Bev is the cutie right next to her, and I of course was the photographer!!!

Well folks, just a few weeks now until the Billings community fair. This year's theme is Harvesting Traditions. The fair is a huge event for our little town and is packed full of fun, music, good eats, rides, cattle shows, vendors, games, contests and of course the parade. This year, I designed and laid out the fair book and it is out in the town and ready for you to pick up your copy. Little Jailee came to visit the other night with her Lacy her Mom, Junior her Dad, Aunt Amanda and Grandma Cindy. Cindy and I work together at the hospital so I have heard many Jailee stories but this was my first opportunity to actually meet her. What a pretty baby! She has the most incredible blue eyes and was such a good baby too! I was so impressed, as I snapped away she was so content playing with the blocks, the little leaves that we put out or even just her own shoe (actually rumor has it that she has a bit of a shoe fetish!) Here are a couple from our indoor session, I can't wait until later this year when it isn't so hot and we can get outside and get some fun fall shots. Chelsey, this years Senior Ambassador from Crane High, was back for part 1 of her actual Senior session and did the downtown thing! We had so much fun shooting her and she looked as so beautiful, blue eyes sparkling as always. We traveled the town trying out both new spots and some of our old fav's that we have frequented in the past. Introducing Karly! Karly is this years' Senior Ambassador representing Backroads by Lynda at Kickapoo High School in Springfield. Karly stays very active in her school as a varsity Cheerleader for the Chiefs. I enjoyed spending time with Karly and her Mother Shari and they were troopers out in the heat getting her portraits made plus Sherri got to be pretty handy at handling the reflector too. We had a lot of fun traveling around Springfield and even got some really fun shots with Karly's dogs Skye and Delila. Karly will be back in the studio in a couple of weeks to finish her session by getting a few more fun outside shots and doing her indoor studio shots. Jesse is a senior this year at Hilcrest and is the whole package. A wonderful guy that was so easy to talk with and had a real sense of direction in knowing what he wanted in his senior images. Although it was incredibly hot out, we had a great time staying cool at the pool getting his senior shots. Jesse is a lifeguard, a member of the swim team and also plays the tuba in both the marching and concert bands. Last weekend I took a very needed break and visited Eureka Springs with 3 of my best girlfriends. Denise, Jenn and Michell are all portrait or wedding photographers from different areas that I have had the privilege of shooting with and learning from. Although it was a rest, great food and a lot of laughs, we also discussed different shooting techniques, equipment, different techniques in editing images and shooting styles. I am incorporating some of these new ideas in my editing now and plan to be able to offer some new looks at Backroads by Lynda this coming senior season. Be sure to check in from time to time and see some of the latest ideas and techniques in the area of portraiture. Simple Elegance! Cortney & Scott's wedding day

There is just no better way to describe the beauty of Cortney & Scott Chaffin's wedding as simple elegance. Our friends were married June 28th on the banks of the Finley River in Ozark at the legendary Riverside Inn. The feel of the landscape and buildings was that of old world wealth and with their choice of black, white and red for decorations, it simply couldn't be more beautiful! Cortney was stunning as always, in her cream gown with black sash and Scott in his black tux. Scott's daughter, Logan was the maid of honor and was radiant in her black dress carrying red roses. The tables were adorned with black satin and red roses and had black and white photos of the bride, groom and new family on each along with framed handmade love sayings. As the guests arrived and were greeted by an acoustical guitarist playing while they were seated in the shade of a large magnolia tree on the patio where Scott and Cortney exchanged vows. The reception was held inside with a full meal in Riverside style and open bar to follow. Friends and family laughed and chatted as they mingled on the patio near the flowing river the remainder of the night. Truly, this was one of the most beautiful weddings that we have ever attended and I am so happy for my friends and the start to their new life together. Congratulations Scott, Cortney and Logan!

My senior ambassador for Nixa schools this year is Kelsey. Kelsey is a wonderful young lady that is as intelligent as she is beautiful. We had a wonderful time laughing and talking while shooting Kelsey's senior fun shoot for her cards. Kelsey is very active in the Nixa school system with band, honors society, and French club among some of her interests. I am so fortunate to have Kelsey representing Backroads by Lynda this year for her school and look forward to working with her soon on her actual senior shoot. Michael and Kassi Cross were married in a beautiful beach setting in Florida on May 31, 2008. Now, as much as we would have loved to be there taking their wedding day images we were still here in MO. On June 22nd however, they held a beautiful reception for family and friends to attend. The reception was decorated with all their shells and wedding day images from the beach as well as a cake that looked as if it were straight from the beach. It was adorned with shells, coral and had a starfish bride and groom on top. Family and friends as well as their 2 pups stopped in to wish them well and be part of the festivities. Michael, you couldn't have picked a more stunning bride.......Kassi was beautiful in her dress and was so full of wedded bliss that we were even caught her twirling in her gown. Meet Chelsey, the first Senior Rep for 2009

I had the privilege to meet Chelsey last fall when I did family portraits with Chelsey, her brother and cousins. I knew at that moment that I would love to get Chelsey for a senior representative this year and really get to focus on those stunning eyes of hers. I am so glad that she has signed on as my first Senior Rep this year and will be representing Backroads by Lynda at her school. Chelsey is very active in basketball and volleyball at Crane and I really look forward to getting some action shots this year of her "in action" on the court. Chelsey is already handing out cards at her school and I really appreciate all her hard work. My cousin Charlene and Weston Smith were married in a beautiful ceremony May 17th in Carthage, MO. Mike and I were so proud to be their photographers and be part of their very special day. The beautiful and traditional ceremony was held in the sanctuary of the church they both attend and where they both have been very active musically, it was full of family, friends and faith. We had the opportunity to take engagement pictures and wedding pictures for some dear friends this month. Marlisa Camerer and Tate Tellier were married this month in a beautiful outdoor wedding at the Shilling Farm in Ozark on June 7, 2008 at 7 pm. The wedding and the bride were both stunning and it couldn't have been a more beautiful day or ceremony. My friend Michell, owner of Artistic Image in Harrison, Arkansas did some second shooting for us and blessed us with her unique style and artistic representation of this wonderful event.....thanks for helping Michell, it was wonderful working with you again. You may remember Cortney from a session last fall where she and her dogs, Lily and Stormy let us take some images of them in town. WOW!!!! This game couldn't have been more exciting! The Irish 7th grade team was victorious over the Falcons with time expired winning by a safety. Irish football started Friday night in the Harrison stadium with the 8th graders from Catholic against Kickapoo's 8th grade team. It was a cold night and a very exciting game. Kickapoo did end up victorious, but the Irish team looked awesome. This game could have gone either way, the teams were well matched and playing hard. Football is the favorite sport in our house, and I am looking forward to watching both Catholic's 7th and 8th grade teams this coming Friday night. Good luck and have a great season Irish!!!

The Coldest Track Meet Ever!

Well, the title says it all. Friday night we had a track meet in Marshfield and WOW, was it ever cold. The winds were howling and the Irish were running...........fast! We were able to get down on the track at this meet and it made getting the images really fun. We had a great time but were very glad to get back in the car and warm up. Good job Irish!

here is one of my favorite little models wearing one of this spring's bright and beautiful petti's and hats. I finally got a few studio shots with the pettis and WOW do the colors just POP! I can't wait to get down there and play some more. These are just going to give us some stunning options for this spring! A weekend full of tournaments!!!!!!

Wow, what an exciting weekend of shooting sports! Friday night started off with the Crane tournament where I got to watch Crane and Marionville play ball. It was a very close ballgame for what seemed like the longest time until Marionville came out victorious. The Pirates never gave up though and made for an exciting game to be a spectator. The Comets and the Pirates, never a dull moment!

Saturday morning started off very early with Grapplemania. The Grapplemania tournament is a wrestling tournament hosted by the Springfield Youth Wrestling club with hundreds of competitors and hundreds more in attendance. This is always a well run tournament with one of the highest turnouts of youth wrestlers in our area. I shot literally hundreds of photos from 8:00 in the morning until after 6:00 in the evening. It was a long day but a very exciting day! Only one major injury that I saw (hopefully Hunter is healing quickly) and some very intense wrestling from division 1 through division 5 wrestlers. Many teams traveled hours just to be able to compete at this level, with the caliber of wrestlers that attend this tournament it is always an honor to be able to go home with a medal from this tournament. Thanks to all the wrestlers who gave me some awesome shots to start working up. It might take a little time to get all these ready for viewing!

I have just been so anxious to get the new Petti skirts in and couldn't wait to get my little models out and start shooting once they arrived. These skirts should be so much fun for the Valentine's Day shoots as well as for this spring and summer. I have purchased a small in periwinkle blue with vibrant purple ruffles and then the hot pink in medium with multi colored ruffles, this will allow us to have lots of fun with the girls of all ages coming into the Backroads studio. This is our sweet and very smart little man, Hank. He is now 8 weeks old and such a good little boy. I wasn't too interested at first in having to start house training and all the other assorted things that go along with a new pup, but Hank is such a great little pup and is learning very quickly. Like most people, I find a new year full of new opportunities and possibilities, new ideas and new directions for Backroads. I have taken off some time for Christmas and feel very blessed to have been able to spend some time with my extended family. We had Christmas dinner together at Mom's house, got caught up on all the family members and what is new in every one's lives (including Ben and Shelly's exciting news of a new baby on the way and Charlene and Weston's upcoming wedding plans) and even spent one day right before Christmas at Silver Dollar City seeing all the beauty of the season! I promise to get some pictures up on the blog very soon. We also have a new addition (of the four legged kind of coarse!) and his name is Hank. He is a darling Australian Shepard/Border Collie pup that was given to us by Tate Tellier and his fiancee Marlissa..................you two have heard about paybacks I am sure! That's OK, I will be taking their wedding pictures later this year, hmmmmmmm wonder what kind of a wedding gift I can come up for them?!?

Well, with all the new possibilities of the year, it is time to get back to business and this year one of my "Backroads" New Year's resolutions is to get back to keeping the blog up to date. I have heard through the rumor mill, "hey, what's up with the blog. Not too much on last month", so here we go! I was so busy at the end of the year with Christmas pictures, Christmas cards, and 3 senior sessions that I just didn't sit down and blog. I have plenty of catching up to do on here and in the next few weeks I will be updating with some of the images that I captured in November and December............so stay tuned, there is a lot to come!

One of the new features that I am adding this year are video clips. I am adding one today with a few of the images that I captured at the Ozark Youth Wrestling Tournament. It was a well run tournament with many youth wrestlers from the area competing for medals in several different divisions. I thought some of their images would be the perfect thing for trying out the video clip. I am hoping this will be a fun new feature on the "Backroads blog" be sure and let me know what you think.

I was able to shoot the Holliday family before all the leaves were gone. A beautiful young family with a brand new addition, this is what makes taking family portraits just plain fun! You guys were all such troopers willing to walk down creek beds in heels and do whatever was asked, even in the cold to get some unique images. She was willing to try anything suggested to get shots that really represent what location shooting is all about. Stormy and Lilly were beautiful animals and I was able to get some really nice pet portraits too, as long as we could position Lilly so she could see the geese that she desperately wanted to get! Hey Cortney, I still love the coat!!! Thanks for getting it out and letting me showcase it a little. We have some great shots to work with, I can't wait to show you more!

I am so pleased to introduce Brock! What a beautiful newborn and a blessing to his family and to our church family. I was so happy to be able to take his newborn pictures. Congratulations to his entire family on their new addition.

Happy Halloween to everyone from the studio of Backroads by Lynda. Here are a few of the little ones that have been in to visit and get their fall pictures. Bella and Brock were in and all dressed for Halloween. They had just been to the pumpkin patch and Bella came adorned with a sparkling spider on her cheek. How cute is she!!!! Brock was so alert and looked right at home in the fall background dressed with little ghosts on his outfit.

Meet Ethan

my newest student ambassador from Crane. Ethan is a senior this year at Crane and has signed on to get the "Backroads by Lynda" name out at his school. Ethan and his Mom came by today and we did studio shots as well as location shooting too. I have only just started the editing process on his images and can't wait to be able to do them all. We got some really unique shots of Ethan and he made it so easy. Ethan was just great to work with, willing to try any pose, extremely photogenic and was fun too! I look forward to coming down to Crane later during your basketball season Ethan and getting some fun shots for you to keep from your senior year. Good luck and have a fun senior year!
